Dental Insurance
Dental insurance comes in many shapes and sizes.   There are literally hundreds of different plans available, and each one has different eligibility, benefits, rules, and exclusions.  We do our best to keep track of all this for each of our patients and make their visit to our office as smooth as possible.  The following is a quick description of the two most common types of dental insurance.

PPO Insurance:  PPO dental insurance is accepted at our office. Typically these types of plans pay 100% of your bill for regular cleanings and check ups, and some percentage of the bill for other dental procedures.   The patient pays the remaining portion.  PPO insurance companies send out a list of fees that all the dentists must abide by.  This is why it's smart to go to a dentist that's on your plan, otherwise you may be charged a higher fee by an "out of network" dentist.  It is also true that every dentist on your plan is contractually obligated to charge you the exact same amount.

Some of the most common PPO Insurance plans that we accept are listed below.  If you don’t see your plan listed, please call to check eligibility:

  • Aetna
  • Met life
  • Delta Dental
  • Principle
  • United Healthcare
  • United Concordia
  • Cigna
  • Secure Care
  • Southwest Service Administrators
  • Ameritas
  • Humana
  • Blue Cross Blue Shield

HMO and DMO Insurance:  HMO&DMO plans are not accepted at our office.  These types of plans are sometimes called capitation plans, and do not pay for each dental procedure.  Instead, they pay the dentist a few dollars each month for each patient that is assigned to that office.  The dental office receives this payment regardless of the patient ever stepping foot inside the dental office.
The HMO/DMO plan does not pay for anything else.  The dentist is then required to provide basic services for no additional charge.  Cleanings, exams, X-rays, fillings, etc.  are typically not paid by the HMO/DMO, nor is the dentist allowed to bill the patient.  A problem arises when the dentist is required to provide these expensive services, but is not paid for them by the insurance plan nor the patient.  Dental offices are quite expense to operate, and with no income from these basic procedures, our experience has been that patients sometimes receive additional complex treatment that was well beyond what was recommended by our office.
